   Visitors to India require a passport that is valid for at least six months from the date of visa
   application with at least 2 blank pages available within the passport.

Where to get a visa: View the contact list for the Embassy and Consulates in the US. Remember that the Embassy and Consulates are usually closed on American and Indian national holidays. you can check their individual websites for closings.

How long it will take:
Applications are usually accepted in person from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and are returned usually from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. the same day but individual Embassy and Consulate timings may vary slightly. Applications by mail may take up to 10 business days to process after receipt of your application.

Duration and Cost:
Tourist visas are usually valid for 6 months from the date of issue. the cost for the visa is $60 for American citizens and can be more expensive if you wish to stay in India for longer than 6 months, if you apply for a multiple entry visa, or if you decide to apply through an agent.
